What I Watch – Cranky Geeks

Category: Interesting Links — Posted by Michael at 1955

The folks over at Ziff Davis who produce DL.TV have added another show to their line-up. John C. Dvorak, another ZDTV/TechTV alum is back and his show is appropriately called Cranky Geeks. It’s a tech discussion show that harkens back Silicon Spin on ZDTV/TechTV back in the good old days.

What I Watch – Rocketboom

Category: Interesting Links — Posted by Michael at 1431

Rocketboom is a hard one to explain. You might have already seen it since it’s one of the more popular IPTV shows on the internet. It’s a mixture of tech news stories, weird finds on the world wide web, man on the street interviews and the occasional musical dance montage.

How do you classify all of that? Anyway, it’s hosted by Amanda Congdon who has a style that all her own for delivering the content and keeping it interesting.

What I Watch – Food Guru Moments

Category: Cooking/Food,Interesting Links — Posted by Michael at 1953

I love to cook, so this new video podacst is becoming one of my favorite short IPTV shows. It comes from an unlikely place. When you think of fine dining, Iowa is the first place that comes to mind, right? Ok, maybe not, but Peter Harman hosts Food Guru Moments and he is the owner and chef at Martini’s Grill in Burlington, Iowa. It’s a unique, fast-paced podcast that introduces one recipe per episode.

If I’m ever in Iowa (though I probably won’t be) I’d definately stop in and try his cooking!

It’s a production of the This Week in Tech (TWiT) folks with Amber MacArthur, Leo Laporte and others. In case you didn’t guess, it’s about Macintosh issues and news.

What I Listen To/Watch Revisited

Category: Interesting Links — Posted by Michael at 2234

A while ago I wrote a series of posts about what podcasts I listen to and what IPTV shows I watch. A lot has changed since then so I’m posting a few more entries about the new ones I listen to. Also, IPTV shows have now become video podcasts, so that’s something new!

When this series is done, I’ll post a dump of all of my current subscriptions in iTunes, just in case anyone cares.

What I Watch – Digital Life TV

Category: Interesting Links,Technology — Posted by Michael at 2227

You’ve heard me mention Leo Laporte a bunch of times in my podcast and IPTV reviews, but what about the other host of The Screen Savers. Yes, I’m talking about that kilt-wearing, sledge hammer wielding guy from New Jersey, Patrick Norton!

ZDTV/TechTV might be gone, but Patrick is back and has Robert Heron, one of the TechTV Lab Rats with him as he hosts Digital Life TV. You’ll also see some other familiar faces on the show from time to time. It comes from Ziff-Davis, the company that created ZDTV! A new show is broadcast live every Tuesday night and the video is posted in various formats the next day or so.

What I Watch – Systm

Category: Interesting Links,Technology — Posted by Michael at 1914

The first IPTV show that I watch is Systm. It stars Kevin Rose and Dan Huard. You might remember them from The Screen Savers on the old TechTV. You will notice that many of the shows on this list will feature old TechTV refugees just as my podcast list did. These folks have found a great home on the internet.

They show some really geeky topics that range from building equipment to making cables.

Check it out at www.systm.org.

IPTV Shows I Watch

Category: Interesting Links — Posted by Michael at 1855

Since my series of posts about the podcasts that I listen to was such a huge success (OK, so most likely, no one read them) I’ve decided to to do the same with the IPTV shows that I watch. For those who don’t know what IPTV is, it’s basically just TV shows that are produced for Internet distribution. They can be in a wide variety of formats including Quicktime, Windows Media, etc.

Some of the podcasts I listen to also produce a video version. I’ll list those even though I don’t usually download the video since it’s easier to listen to the audio in the car.
